Hi Reader –
Is your device holding back your productivity with Evernote? No matter how much we love productivity tools, outdated tech can turn our workday into a series of frustrating delays. It's the nature of embracing cloud computing tools – Evernote included.
And we've all been there — trying to complete a quick task in Evernote only to find ourselves waiting for it to sync or struggling with lag times. Not to mention the time wasted trying to troubleshoot these issues on our own or with tech support. It's maddening!
Even when tech support resolves the issue, you've wasted more than just time — you've drained energy that could have been spent organizing your notes, planning projects, or getting things done.
The Hidden Costs of Outdated Tech on Evernote Efficiency
Several years ago, I had a problem with Evernote sync.
While tech support worked to help me, I wondered when I last upgraded my iPhone. A quick search in Evernote revealed it had been four years (I found my receipt because I centralize them all in Evernote!). At the time, I was using an iPhone 6, and my Evernote app — along with other essential tools like G Suite and Zoom — struggled to keep up with newer software. It hit me — my outdated device was the root of my Evernote woes.
The Benefits of Upgrading for Optimal Evernote Use
Years ago, as the I.T. Director for a real estate company, I saw agents get frustrated when their tech couldn’t keep up. I advised them to budget for upgrading all hardware every couple of years — mobile devices, computers, tablets, even their internet access speed. And then it hit me. What if I took my own advice? Would that fix my Evernote sync issues?
So I went to the Apple store and invested in a current iPhone. Like magic, my Evernote sync issues were resolved.
It was amazing to switch quickly between notes, access my data instantly, and use Evernote seamlessly. It’s easy to be upset with Evernote when it doesn’t perform as expected, but sometimes the issue is our hardware, not the software.

Making the Case for Investing in New Tech for Better Evernote Performance
A truth to accept about tech is that things constantly evolve. Hard drives get bigger, chips get faster, operating systems get more complex, powerful new technologies are invented, and software developers have the eternal task of keeping up with the hardware and operating systems their app runs on.As the adage goes: the only constant is change.
If your life and business organization relies on Evernote, you are wise to accept that your hardware is the gatekeeper. Keeping your hardware current brings ease and grace to your productivity.Plan for this. Budget for this. Invest in current tech. It’s an essential part of your productivity puzzle.
If you're frustrated because Evernote isn’t as speedy as you’d expect, review how old your device is. If it's four+ years old, consider upgrading to stay efficient.
I have a budget category for this – and when the time comes (usually when I notice my digital life is dragging or hiccuping on a consistent basis), I buy the best I can afford at that point in time. It’s an essential part of my productivity puzzle.
Am I suggesting that you stand in line to get the latest iPhone when it comes out in mid-September? No.
But if you're running your Evernote account and digital life from a dated smartphone, tablet, or computer, it's likely time to upgrade to a more recent model to keep up with Evernote’s capabilities (and everything else you rely on the internet for).
Cheers to your productivity!
