Hi Reader –
Evernote took big strides in 2024, unveiling 100 improvements that pushed the platform’s functionality and personalization to new heights. But which changes truly stand out? Which ones could reshape how you work—and which ones still need some fine-tuning?
As an Evernote Certified Expert with years of experience, I’ve seen firsthand how tools can transform workflows. One advantage of not working for Evernote is that I can give you my honest take on everything. And commenting on the new features is one place my expertise can shine.
These improvements cover three broad areas:
Collaboration and Sharing (streamlined ways to work with others more effectively)
Editor (powerful updates to note organization and functionality)
Speed (behind-the-scenes improvements to make Evernote faster and more reliable)
With so many changes this year, it’s easy to miss the ones that really matter.
Evernote’s Top 10 Favorite Improvements
Evernote filtered their 100 improvements down to their top 10 favorites in this X thread. Let’s recap their picks – and I’m adding my own 2 cents (ahem…I don’t always agree). And, when appropriate, I’m adding what I want to see in 2025 to make these new features even better.
1: Slash Commands: Add tasks, events, links, tables, headers, and more with a single keystroke.
My take: A total game-changer. This productivity booster is intuitive and efficient, making note creation faster than ever.
2: Collapsible Sections: Easily expand or collapse content under headings or list items for a cleaner note view.
My take: Another game-changer. It’s invaluable for keeping dense notes organized and focused.
3: Draggable Sections: Rearrange paragraphs, collapsed sections, and blocks with a simple drag-and-drop.
My take: Huge for organization! This feature makes restructuring content seamless and stress-free. I love it.
4: New Mobile Create Screen (Evernote calls it “Home”): Capture information on the go faster than ever with a redesigned, customizable home screen.
My take: While the improved mobile app speed and reliability are excellent, the new Home screen is still not my favorite. To win me over, it needs more customization options (like reordering the create buttons) and an optimization of the layout (the button design is not as functionally elegant as the prior version and the padding between sections bugs me!).
5: Voice-to-Text & Image-to-Text Transcription: Use AI to transcribe audio, video, or images into clean, editable text.
My take: A productivity superpower. Turning media into searchable, editable text is a massive win for workflows.
6: Sidebar Menu Customization: Personalize your sidebar to reflect how you use Evernote, whether on Desktop or Mobile.
My take: A huge win for personalization. For 2025, I’d love to reorder sections to tailor it even further to my workflow.
7: Mobile Navbar Customization: Customize what’s in your navbar to fit your workflow.
My take: A good step forward, but adding the ability to reorder navigation items takes this feature to the next level.
8: New Tasks Section: A full-screen view with descriptions, priorities, and ways to organize your tasks.
My take: Big improvement. I’m hoping 2025 brings bulk actions (I want to change multiple due dates at once, for example) and I want Tasks to open in their own window so I can work with them without navigating away from my notes.
9: Native Event Creation: Create calendar events directly in Evernote with two-way sync to Google or Outlook.
My take: Nice feature, but I mostly use it the other way around. iCal integration in 2025 would make this even better for a lot of users (I’ve heard it is coming…one day...they promise!).
10: Accountless Collaboration: Share notes with anyone—even if they don’t have an Evernote account using Evernote’s new Lite Editor and one-click note sharing.
My take: A major step forward. Hope to see the Table of Contents and Note Links features, plus additional permissions options supported in the Lite Editor in 2025.
