How to highlight your "Word of the Year" in Evernote

Hi Reader –

One productivity practice I embrace at the end of each year is choosing a word (or phrase) to represent my high-level focus for the year ahead.

For 2025, I've chosen "Do things differently. Get different results."

Why this phrase? Although I’m satisfied with how my 2024 went, I’m clear that if I handle next year the same way I did this year, I’ll likely achieve the same results.

I have bigger goals for 2025 than I did for 2024. So I need to be open to new approaches and habits in order to achieve bigger results.

Just like any idea we have, our word of the year has a better chance for impact when it stays front and center for us. Given that I’m in Evernote each and every day (typically it’s open all day long) Evernote’s an ideal place for me to keep my 2025 top of mind.

To do this, each year I create a custom Evernote Home cover image that contains my word or phrase of the year. I overlay it on an image that’s attractive to me and is in alignment with my goal.

For 2025, I placed my phrase on a serene forest path background that represents a journey of change ahead. For me, it makes my digital workspace both beautiful and meaningful.

I've been amazed at how this simple practice of choosing and displaying a word or phrase has helped my productivity over the years. Whether you're focusing on "Simplicity," "Growth," "Balance," or any other word, making it visible in Evernote turns it from a mere suggestion into an intentional daily guide.

Remember, your word can be anything that resonates with your goals for 2025. The key is making it visible and motivating when you see it every day.

Ready to create your own visual reminder?

Create a design in a tool like Canva. The optimal dimensions for an Evernote Home cover image are 2000 x 1280 pixels (at the time of this article).

🧠 Academy members: Share your word of 2025 and your custom Home cover image in the comments of this post. And, if you need help selecting a word, check out the comments for inspiration from your fellow Academy members.
